Saturday, May 21. This was the most beautiful and warmest day we have had since arriving 22 days ago. We got the train to Assisi. This is an interesting place for religious folks because St. Francis is buried there. There is a huge Duomo that houses his body – it is three levels and many stairs to walk to see it all. We did 11,280 steps, 4.73 miles, and 31 flights of stairs, all in one day. Thanks to the HEALTH app on our iPhones, these figures are accurate – not a guess. Frankly I was exhausted. The murals on the walls of the Duomo tell the story of St. Francis; it is indescribable in words alone. After riding the train back to Arezzo, we had a nice dinner close to home and crashed in bed early.
NOTE: Not that it is of much interest to you all, but our friend, Paola, in the past 2 weeks, has had her transmission go out in her car, her cell phone broke and her Internet (like ours too) was not connected so no work could be done. She is a Tuscany Consultant – she knows everything about this region and everyone knows her in Arezzo. She is really a special friend. She found this apartment and the Villa for John to rent the past few years. After over a week without her car, it is running again, a client bought her a new iPhone as a gift and her Internet is on.
